Environmental Science, Ecology, Forestry Job Opportunity
The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is a part of the ETH domain. Approximately 500 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards(Environmental Science, Ecology, Forestry Job Opportunity)
The research unit Forest Resources and Management analyzes state and development in forests. In the project “Sustainable development of ecosystem services in Swiss forests (SessFor)“ of the National Research Program 73 we investigate the effect of forest management and climate on different forest services. In this framework we are looking for a two-year
To plan the provision of sustainable ecosystem services (ES) in forests you will develop a prototype of a decision support system (DSS). The aim of this prototype is to support forest practitioners in real management decisions. Your work is based on a climate sensitive stand simulator which is currently further developed by a PhD student. You will combine the simulation results with a recently developed set of indicators, as well as with weighting factors and value functions of divers ES. In close collaboration with forest practitioners you will evaluate and iteratively enhance your R based DSS prototype using two case studies. The results are expected to be published in international scientific journals. Further project information can be found at: http://www.nfp73.ch/en/projects/forestry/ecosystem-services-in-forests
You hold a PhD in forestry sciences, or a related field in ecology with a corresponding publication record. You have good knowledge in the management of European forests, its ecological and economic development and experience with ecosystem services in forests. You have knowledge of sustainability impact assessment of forest-wood chains and you are familiar with the calculation of indicator values and value functions. Excellent knowledge in statistics (R) is mandatory. You exhibit very good command of the English language, good knowledge of the German language is advantageous.
Please send your complete application to Stefania Pe, Human Resources WSL, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered.
